Alaska Airlines Fires Back: More Flights, Better Deals, No Compromise

Competition at Seattle Paine Field International Airport is getting intense as Alaska Airlines takes action against Frontier Airlines’ expansion. The dominant carrier at the airport is adding more flights to key destinations, ensuring it maintains its market lead.

Recently, Frontier Airlines announced new routes from Paine Field to Las Vegas and Phoenix. As a result, Alaska Airlines has increased its flight frequency on these routes. Previously, the airline scheduled 82 return flights to Phoenix in June, providing 12,000 seats. However, to counter Frontier’s entry, it has now raised this to 140 flights, offering nearly 22,000 seats. Likewise, its Las Vegas service has grown from 82 to 120 flights, adding thousands of additional seats.

Meanwhile, Frontier Airlines plans to operate 26 return flights per month to both destinations. To attract passengers, it has introduced promotional fares as low as $29 for Phoenix and Las Vegas flights. Consequently, this pricing strategy puts pressure on Alaska Airlines to stay competitive.

As summer approaches, Alaska Airlines is also preparing for increased travel demand. In June, the carrier will launch the northernmost Boeing 737 MAX 8 flight between Anchorage and Utqiaġvik. Additionally, it is exploring the possibility of equipping its aircraft with Starlink Wi-Fi, enhancing the in-flight experience for passengers.

Beyond these expansions, Alaska Airlines has also focused on improving conditions for its workforce. The airline recently secured a new three-year contract for its flight attendants, highlighting its commitment to both employees and operational excellence.

Ultimately, Paine Field’s airline industry is shifting as competition grows. With Frontier’s arrival, passengers now have more choices, forcing airlines to adapt. By increasing flights and enhancing services, Alaska Airlines is ensuring it remains the preferred option for travelers.
