Alaska Airlines is preparing to upgrade its fleet by integrating high-speed Starlink WiFi. As part of its ongoing merger with Hawaiian Airlines, the airline is making several improvements. The merger has already introduced route expansions, fleet adjustments, and new loyalty benefits. Now, Alaska Airlines aims to enhance passenger experience by offering reliable in-flight connectivity.
Since Hawaiian Airlines pioneered the use of Starlink WiFi, it makes sense for Alaska Airlines to follow suit. The airline initially installed Starlink on its Airbus A321neo aircraft and later expanded it to the Airbus A330-200 fleet. Because passengers and crew members welcomed the upgrade, Alaska Airlines now plans to implement the same technology across its aircraft.
Currently, Alaska Airlines’ growing fleet consists of planes from multiple subsidiaries, including Horizon Air and third-party regional carriers. By the end of 2024, the airline group had nearly 400 aircraft. As part of its expansion strategy, Alaska Airlines is preparing to integrate Starlink WiFi into more of its planes. However, technical challenges remain, particularly with the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which requires special approvals before installation. Despite these hurdles, the airline remains committed to bringing high-speed internet to its customers.
Furthermore, the merger between Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines is set to bring several other benefits beyond better WiFi. The two carriers are working on a three-year plan to streamline operations, enhance customer rewards, and expand their route networks. Additionally, the combined loyalty programs of both airlines already serve over 11 million members. Eventually, these programs will merge to create even greater value for frequent flyers.
Meanwhile, other airlines are also moving toward Starlink WiFi adoption. For instance, Qatar Airways plans to equip its entire fleet with the technology, while SAS aims to roll it out by late 2025. As demand for seamless connectivity increases, airlines worldwide are investing in next-generation internet services to enhance passenger experience.
