American Airlines is enhancing its inflight services with WiFi connectivity across its fleet. As one of the world’s largest airlines, American operates nearly 1,000 mainline aircraft and serves over 350 destinations globally. Recently, the airline expanded its WiFi offerings, providing faster and more reliable connections on regional aircraft.
Starting with a partnership with Intelsat, American Airlines is installing WiFi on over 500 regional planes. This initiative includes Bombardier CRJ-700s, CRJ-900s, and Embraer E170s and E175s, with installations slated to be completed over the next two years. The new system will support activities like video streaming, internet browsing, and using VPNs during flights, improving the inflight experience for passengers.
In addition to expanding connectivity, American Airlines has introduced a feature allowing AAdvantage members to purchase WiFi using miles. However, the availability of this option remains unclear. The airline also offers several WiFi plans, including monthly and annual subscriptions for frequent flyers, though these plans are not available on all international flights.
Unlike other major carriers, American Airlines has yet to offer free WiFi for all passengers. While Delta and United have already introduced free WiFi for their loyalty members, American does offer free WiFi for T-Mobile customers on select flights. The service depends on the passenger’s phone plan, with some plans offering limited inflight sessions and others offering unlimited access.
American Airlines also offers a variety of entertainment options for passengers who don’t opt for WiFi. In collaboration with Apple, the airline provides free access to Apple Music for a limited time. With these updates, American continues to prioritize passenger convenience and connectivity across its entire fleet.
