Arajet, the Dominican Republic’s newest low-cost airline, has entered the U.S. market with its inaugural flights connecting Santo Domingo and Miami. This marks a major milestone for the carrier, which expands rapidly following the recent Open Skies agreement between the U.S. and the Dominican Republic. As a result, Arajet aims to reshape regional air travel by offering affordable flights across the Americas. Moreover, the airline is now ready to tap into the competitive U.S. market.
The first flight left Las Américas International Airport in Santo Domingo and landed at Miami International Airport. Initially, the airline will operate four flights a week but plans to increase that number to daily flights by June 2025. Arajet operates Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft, which serve as the backbone of its growing fleet. With its low-cost model, the airline wants to make travel more accessible for U.S. tourists and residents seeking affordable connections to the Caribbean.
Arajet’s growth doesn’t stop with Miami. In fact, the airline plans to introduce direct flights from Miami to Punta Cana. This new route will further strengthen connectivity between the Dominican Republic’s top tourist spots and the U.S. Additionally, Arajet will add new routes, including flights to Puerto Rico and Newark. These new routes are set to launch in June 2025, which is part of the airline’s strategy to expand its network across North America.
The U.S.–Dominican Republic Open Skies agreement allowed the airline to overcome many regulatory barriers. Consequently, Arajet now takes full advantage of this new framework, positioning itself as a significant player in the low-cost international travel market. As the airline continues to grow its fleet and add more destinations, it will become a key provider of affordable travel between the U.S. and the Caribbean.
