Austin’s Gateway to More: Delta Air Lines Unveils 5 New Routes


Delta Air Lines is expanding its services at Austin–Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). The airline plans to introduce five new routes next year. This move comes as American Airlines reduces its presence at the airport, creating an opportunity for Delta to capture unmet demand.

This past summer, Delta operated its largest schedule ever at AUS. Starting this fall, it will launch an intra-Texas service to Harlingen. Additionally, Delta will begin flights to New Orleans early next year, further strengthening its presence in Austin.

The new routes will connect AUS to five destinations. These include Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP), Indianapolis International Airport (IND), Memphis International Airport (MEM), San Francisco International Airport (SFO), and Tampa International Airport (TPA). Delta plans to roll out these services over three months. The first route to ECP will launch on March 9, 2025.

On May 7, 2025, flights to Indianapolis and Memphis will begin. Services to San Francisco and Tampa will start on June 8, 2025. Delta will operate all five routes daily, showing its commitment to meet customer demand. The airline will use two aircraft types for these routes: the Embraer E175, operated by SkyWest Airlines, and the Airbus A220-300 for mainline services.

The A220-300 seats 130 passengers in a two-class configuration. It features 12 recliner seats in first class and 118 seats in the main cabin. Of these, 30 are Delta Comfort+ seats. Passengers will enjoy WiFi, USB ports, AC outlets, and seatback screens with live satellite TV.

Delta’s expansion fills the gap left by American Airlines, which previously offered flights to these destinations. For example, Memphis has remained unserved since American canceled its AUS-MEM service. Southwest Airlines currently operates some of these routes, adding to the competitive landscape.

The route from Austin to San Francisco is particularly noteworthy. Delta will compete directly with Alaska Airlines and United Airlines on this route. This strategy may target the lucrative business market between Austin and the Bay Area, recognizing the demand in this corridor.

Once these new routes begin, Delta Air Lines will operate over 50 daily departures from AUS to 22 destinations.
