Breeze Airways to End Mobile Airport Flights Soon

Breeze Airways, a low-cost carrier based in Utah, announced it will stop all flights from Mobile International Airport by January 31. This will leave downtown Mobile Airport without commercial airline services. Breeze Airways began routes from Mobile to Orlando and Providence, R.I., in April 2024. However, the airline decided to stop flying after a brief operation. Breeze believes in Mobile’s potential but didn’t specify when it might return.

The airline will issue full refunds or help customers rebook flights from nearby airports. Breeze Airways will continue operations in Alabama, mainly from Huntsville International Airport. In 2025, it will offer flights to Orlando, Tampa, Las Vegas, and seasonal flights to Los Angeles from Huntsville.

This change follows Avelo Airlines’ departure in March 2024. As Breeze leaves, the Mobile Airport Authority looks ahead to a new $381 million terminal project. The new five-gate terminal will replace the current two-gate terminal. It will open in late 2025 or early 2026, providing a modern gateway for American Airlines, Delta, and United.

City officials remain hopeful that the new terminal will attract more carriers and routes. They aim to bring Southwest Airlines to Mobile to expand air travel options. The terminal fits into a broader plan to boost the region’s economy by improving air connectivity and offering competitive fares.

As construction continues, the Mobile Airport Authority expects the new terminal to attract more airlines, increase passenger traffic, and improve services.
