Qantas has unveiled a new direct flight route from Brisbane to Port Vila, offering travelers more options to explore Vanuatu. This route strengthens tourism and business ties, creating fresh opportunities between Australia and the Pacific. The addition of this service highlights Qantas’ continued commitment to expanding its international network.
Brisbane to Port Vila: A Boost for Tourism and Business
The new Brisbane to Port Vila route marks the first time Qantas has operated direct flights to Vanuatu’s capital. The inaugural service, QF159, saw full capacity as holidaymakers and business travelers embarked on a three-hour journey to this stunning Pacific destination. This service offers three direct flights per week, helping Australians access Vanuatu’s beaches, rich culture, and adventure opportunities.
Jetstar to Expand Connectivity to Vanuatu
Starting December 12, 2024, Jetstar will also begin direct flights from Sydney to Port Vila, adding up to four weekly services. With both Qantas and Jetstar operating these routes, over 150,000 new seats will be available annually. This increase will likely enhance Vanuatu’s tourism industry and strengthen the local economy.
Qantas Expands International Routes from Brisbane
Port Vila is just one of several international destinations Qantas has introduced from Brisbane over the past year. The airline previously launched routes to Wellington and Honiara, with a new Brisbane to Manila service starting in late October 2024. These additions highlight Qantas’ strategy to boost connectivity in the Asia-Pacific region.
Flight Information
Qantas’ Brisbane to Port Vila flights operate on a Boeing 737-800 aircraft, offering 12 business class and 162 economy seats. The return fares start at $796 for economy and $3,506 for business class. Flights are scheduled for Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, making it convenient for both leisure and business travelers.
Qantas’ Rich History with Vanuatu
Qantas has a longstanding relationship with Vanuatu, dating back to World War II when the airline operated Empire Flying Boats between Noumea and Port Vila. In the 1960s, Qantas, as the owner of Fiji Airways, provided regular services between Nandi and Port Vila. This deep-rooted connection underscores the airline’s enduring commitment to the Pacific region.
