British Airways Restarts Direct London-Kolkata Flights for Faster Travel

British Airways is bringing back direct flights between London and Kolkata after a long pause. This move will not only strengthen trade and tourism ties between India and the United Kingdom but also provide travelers with a faster and more comfortable journey. With the modern Boeing 787 Dreamliner, passengers can expect a seamless experience.

The airline has announced that flights will operate twice a week between London Heathrow and Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. As a result, this direct connection will eliminate the need for layovers, cutting travel time from over 12 hours to just 8. Moreover, the improved connectivity will benefit thousands of travelers, including business professionals and tourists, who seek seamless travel options.

British Airways has long maintained a strong presence in India, offering direct flights to major cities. Now, with the addition of Kolkata, the airline further expands its network, making travel even more convenient for passengers in eastern India. Furthermore, as a member of the Oneworld alliance, the airline ensures extensive onward connections from London to global destinations.

The Kolkata-London route has deep historical roots. British Airways served this route for nearly 80 years before stopping operations in 2009 due to market shifts. Although Air India briefly revived the service, it was later discontinued. However, with growing passenger demand, British Airways now sees an opportunity to reestablish the direct link.

Industry reports suggest that nearly 200,000 travelers could benefit from this revived service annually. Initially, the airline will operate flights twice a week. However, it may increase frequency based on demand. Consequently, this move will make London more accessible for travelers from eastern India and boost economic and cultural exchanges between the two nations.

With the return of this direct service, passengers can now experience a smoother, faster, and more efficient journey. Therefore, British Airways’ decision marks an important step in enhancing international travel between the UK and India.
