As the festive holiday season approaches, airlines are eager to resume popular routes. British Airways has stepped up, reopening a key service that has been inactive since the pandemic began. This week, British Airways made headlines by resuming nonstop flights from London to Bangkok.
On Tuesday, flight BA2231 marked the relaunch of this much-anticipated route. After a hiatus of more than four years, the service will operate three times weekly. Starting in January and February 2025, the frequency will increase to five times weekly, followed by four weekly flights in March 2025.
The journey commenced on October 28, as flight BA2231 departed London Gatwick Airport at 22:00. Following a flight duration of 10 hours and 55 minutes, the aircraft landed at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport at 15:55 the next day. The flight utilized a Boeing 777-200ER from 1999, showcasing British Airways’ commitment to maintaining a reliable long-haul fleet.
British Airways operates a robust fleet of Boeing 777-200ERs, with ages ranging from 15 to 28 years. This versatility highlights the airline’s strategy of using both new and older aircraft for long-haul routes. After welcoming passengers in Bangkok, the same aircraft departed at 23:21, returning to Gatwick at 04:52.
Upon arrival, travelers enjoyed a warm welcome featuring traditional Thai dancers and flower garlands. The airline offers various travel classes, including World Traveller, World Traveller Plus, and Club World. This variety ensures passengers experience comfort and luxury on their journey.
To enhance travel options, British Airways has expanded its codeshare partnership with Bangkok Airways. This collaboration opens new routes for passengers heading to popular destinations in Thailand and Cambodia. Travelers can connect seamlessly from Bangkok to five exciting holiday spots.
Additionally, customers now have the option to include a stopover in Bangkok while booking their tickets. British Airways Executive Club members can also earn Avios and Tier Points when traveling on codeshare flights with Bangkok Airways.
Looking ahead, British Airways is set to broaden its reach further in the region. Starting April 1, 2025, the airline will resume daily flights from London Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Furthermore, new services to Tromso, Norway, and Ivalo, Lapland, will launch in November, expanding the airline’s extensive network.
