Brussels Airlines is making a big change to its long-haul network this summer. As part of its strategy, the airline will stop flights between Brussels and Luanda, Angola. Since this is its longest route, the decision marks a significant shift. The final flight will take off on March 25, 2025. Instead of maintaining this service, the airline will use its aircraft to increase non-stop flights to Kinshasa. Consequently, passengers traveling to the Democratic Republic of Congo will enjoy more direct connections.

Africa remains a key market for Brussels Airlines. Because of this, the airline has built an extensive network across the continent. However, many of its routes involve complex triangular flights, including the soon-to-be-canceled Luanda service. By cutting this stop, the airline will streamline operations. As a result, passengers flying to Kinshasa will reach their destination faster. Moreover, the airline expects this change to improve efficiency and reduce overall travel time.

Despite this suspension, travelers heading to Luanda still have options. Fortunately, Lufthansa, the parent company of Brussels Airlines, continues to offer direct flights from Frankfurt. Additionally, this change aligns with the airline’s long-term expansion plans. Over the next few years, it will replace more triangular flights with non-stop services. Since it is adding more Airbus A330s, passengers can expect smoother connections and better travel experiences.

With Luanda removed from its network, Nairobi will become Brussels Airlines’ longest route. Notably, the airline resumed flights to Nairobi just last year, highlighting its focus on key African destinations. Although its primary emphasis remains on Africa, the airline also operates long-haul flights to the United States. In fact, New York and Washington D.C. remain among its longest non-African routes.

Brussels Airlines continues optimizing its network to better serve passengers. Because of this, it is adjusting routes to ensure efficiency and reliability. While this marks a major shift, the airline remains committed to offering seamless connections and improving its overall service.
