Cathay Pacific A350 Makes Emergency Return to Boston

Cathay Pacific flight CX811 ran into trouble shortly after taking off from Boston Logan International Airport on Monday morning, January 20, 2025. The Airbus A350-1000, heading to Hong Kong, had to return to Boston after smoke filled the cockpit. The crew quickly declared an emergency and asked to return to the airport.

The aircraft, a 2020 model registered B-LXM, took off at 02:23 but faced problems. Just minutes into the flight, the crew spotted smoke and told air traffic control. They decided to dump fuel and return to Boston as a safety measure.

The aircraft circled Massachusetts Bay while dumping fuel, warning nearby planes about the situation. This step helped lighten the aircraft before landing. After dumping the fuel, the crew speeded up the descent and prepared to land. The A350 touched down safely at 03:31, and emergency services waited on the ground. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Cathay Pacific assured passengers that safety remains its priority. The airline updated passengers and began inspecting the aircraft. The flight was canceled, and engineers started investigating the smoke source.

Cathay Pacific operates several A350-1000 aircraft on long-haul flights. The plane involved in this incident has been in service since September 2020 and has logged many flight hours. The airline maintains high safety standards and handles such incidents promptly and professionally.
