Cathay Pacific posted remarkable growth in July 2025 as global travel continued its strong rebound. The airline, along with HK Express, carried 3.2 million passengers during the month. Moreover, Cathay Pacific alone transported 2.48 million passengers, reflecting a 24% increase compared to last year. This surge came as demand for long-haul routes and regional travel remained strong. Additionally, students, families, and summer vacationers fueled significant passenger traffic.
Furthermore, Cathay Pacific expanded its network aggressively to connect Hong Kong with more international destinations. Its Available Seat Kilometres also grew by 30% year-on-year, indicating a strong capacity boost. At the start of July, student and family travel dominated bookings, while later weeks saw rising leisure demand. Consequently, destinations such as South Korea and Southeast Asia gained more travelers, strengthening regional tourism momentum.
Additionally, cargo operations supported growth with an 11% rise in freight volumes. The airline moved 140,156 tonnes of goods during July, including machinery, perishables, and seasonal exports. Moreover, Cathay Pacific increased its cargo capacity quickly to address market needs, focusing on Southeast Asia and beyond. This adaptability reinforced its leadership in cargo transport during a highly competitive market.
Meanwhile, HK Express also performed strongly on short-haul routes. It carried 685,784 passengers in July, a 22% rise from the previous year. The airline added new destinations like Guiyang and Kuala Lumpur Subang, enhancing its regional reach. Although Japan routes faced weaker demand, August bookings suggest improving confidence among travelers. Consequently, HK Express anticipates further recovery in the coming months.
Looking ahead, Cathay Pacific resumed flights to Brussels in August to strengthen its European connectivity. Moreover, the airline expects strong bookings during autumn holidays, driven by students and leisure travelers. With robust passenger and cargo growth, Cathay Pacific aims to maintain its leading position in Asia and beyond.
