China Airlines Expands with Kaohsiung–Chongqing Route Revival

China Airlines is making a strong move by resuming direct flights between Kaohsiung and Chongqing in April 2025. Since this route was last operational in 2018, its revival signals the airline’s commitment to expanding regional connectivity. With air travel steadily recovering, this decision comes at the perfect time to meet the growing demand for direct cross-strait flights.

As travel preferences shift, passengers increasingly seek direct routes to save time and avoid layovers. Therefore, China Airlines aims to provide a seamless option for both business and leisure travelers.

Meanwhile, Kaohsiung International Airport stands to gain from this development. Often overshadowed by Taipei’s primary hub, the airport may now attract more transit passengers. As a result, this could enhance its position as a strategic gateway for international travel. Additionally, Taiwan’s aviation sector may experience further growth if more airlines follow suit and expand services beyond Taipei.

For Chongqing, this new connection strengthens its role as a major economic and tourism hub in Western China. Since the city continues to develop rapidly, convenient air links with Taiwan will boost trade, investment, and tourism. Moreover, the direct flight makes it easier for Taiwanese businesses to explore opportunities in the region.

China Airlines has carefully scheduled the weekly service to maximize convenience. With a mid-week departure, business travelers can conduct meetings and return the same day. Likewise, leisure travelers now have a hassle-free way to plan a quick getaway.

Ultimately, this route’s revival reflects a broader trend in regional aviation recovery. If passenger demand continues to rise, China Airlines may increase flight frequency. Over time, this could lead to even greater cross-strait connectivity, benefiting both travelers and the aviation industry.
