China Eastern Airlines has launched the world’s longest flight, linking Shanghai to Buenos Aires via Auckland. This historic route stretches over 20,000 kilometers and crosses three continents, offering travelers a unique and seamless journey.
The inaugural flight began on December 4, 2025, creating a direct Pacific corridor that significantly reduces travel time between East Asia and South America. Travelers no longer need to make multiple stopovers in North America or Europe, cutting long trips by approximately five hours. Operating four times weekly, the route also strengthens connections within the Asia-Pacific region through Auckland, which acts as a strategic hub for passengers and cargo.
Passengers on the new service enjoy a fully themed aircraft inspired by iconic Chinese artifacts. China Eastern Airlines designed the plane to resemble an art gallery, offering travelers a cultural glimpse during the flight. The airline complements this design with unique dining experiences featuring Asian and South American cuisine, combining comfort with cultural exploration.
This route also boosts trade and tourism between Asia and Latin America. Fifth freedom rights allow the airline to carry passengers and cargo between Auckland and Buenos Aires, supporting direct transport of fresh products like cherries and salmon. Seasonal differences further enrich the travel experience, letting passengers explore winter in China and summer in Argentina in a single trip.
