Court Dismisses United Airlines Environmental Lawsuit

A federal district court in Maryland has dismissed a class action lawsuit against United Airlines that accused the airline of misleading advertising related to its “Eco-Skies” initiative and its environmental impact. The lawsuit was initiated by Alexander Zajac, who alleged that United Airlines falsely promoted its use of 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), causing him to pay higher airfare under the belief that he was supporting environmentally friendly practices.

Zajac’s claims centered around the assertion that United Airlines misrepresented its environmental efforts, leading consumers like him to pay a premium for what they believed were more sustainable flights. However, the court ruled in favor of United Airlines, citing the Airline Deregulation Act, which limits the ability to bring certain claims against airlines. The court found that Zajac faced significant legal obstacles in modifying his allegations under the constraints of this federal law.

United Airlines welcomed the court\’s decision, emphasizing its ongoing commitment to sustainability. The airline reiterated its goal of achieving zero emissions by 2050, highlighting its investments in sustainable aviation fuel and other green technologies as part of its broader environmental strategy. Despite the dismissal, United Airlines remains focused on leading the aviation industry toward a more sustainable future.
