Delta Air Lines launched its advanced Digital ID technology at Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC). This innovation not only provides a seamless, hands-free experience for passengers but also marks Delta’s commitment to improving efficiency in its travel hubs. Since its 2021 debut, Digital ID has successfully streamlined airport navigation for Delta customers across several U.S. airports.
At SLC, Digital ID significantly speeds up check-in, security, and bag drop processes for travelers. To access this feature, passengers must meet specific eligibility criteria, which include TSA PreCheck enrollment and Delta SkyMiles membership. Consequently, this system combines convenience and security, allowing travelers to enjoy a faster journey.
Delta Air Lines’ Digital ID technology uses biometric facial recognition. As a result, it enables passengers to move quickly through checkpoints without showing physical ID. With a simple glance at a camera, eligible passengers can bypass the need for identification documents, thus reducing wait times. This improvement particularly benefits TSA PreCheck members by making airport navigation faster and more efficient.
Digital ID is now available at six major Delta hubs, including Los Angeles (LAX), Atlanta (ATL), Detroit (DTW), and both New York hubs at JFK and LaGuardia. Therefore, the expansion of this technology provides smoother processes at busy airports, where passengers expect reliable and quick service.
In addition to faster security checks, Delta Air Lines’ Digital ID also improves the experience at bag drop counters. Notably, the new system speeds up the bag drop process by up to 75%, reducing the time required to about 30 seconds compared to the traditional two minutes. This initiative reflects Delta’s dedication to enhancing the customer experience at every step of the airport journey.
Looking ahead, Delta Air Lines plans to expand Digital ID to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) next month, just in time for the busy holiday season. Furthermore, Delta will continue rolling out this technology to other locations, thereby strengthening its reputation for leading advancements in traveler convenience.
Eligible passengers can easily activate their Digital ID through the Fly Delta app. They can integrate it with their SkyMiles profile. Importantly, Delta ensures that it never stores biometric data, keeping customer security a top priority. Thus, for a streamlined and secure airport experience, Delta Air Lines takes travel to new levels of efficiency.
