Delta has shifted its growth strategy in 2025 by turning Detroit into its second-largest hub. Although Atlanta still leads, Detroit now beats Minneapolis in total flight activity. During April to June, Delta accelerated Detroit’s status by adding routes and increasing daily flights. As a result, the hub has gained new importance in the airline’s overall network.

Back in 2023, Minneapolis held the second position. However, by Q2 2025, Detroit advanced with a 9% rise in flight movements. In contrast, Atlanta posted an 8% increase, while Minneapolis followed with just 5%. Therefore, Delta’s focus on Detroit created a sharper edge. By the third quarter, Detroit will exceed Minneapolis by 12 more daily flights, solidifying its new ranking.

Moreover, Delta expanded its network by launching 10 new routes across 2024 and 2025. These additions significantly boosted both domestic and international coverage. Currently, Delta connects Detroit to 122 destinations. Among them, 22 are international, including major hubs such as Amsterdam and Toronto. Meanwhile, domestic connections reach 100 cities, covering states like New York, Florida, and California. Consequently, travelers now enjoy greater flexibility and better access across regions.

Additionally, Delta introduced weekly flights to underserved markets such as Bozeman. This strategy shows Delta’s commitment to filling service gaps in emerging regions. As a result, Detroit now supports both business and leisure travelers more effectively. Therefore, the hub’s growing role in Delta’s operations reflects a smart, data-backed move. Clearly, the airline’s Detroit strategy is paying off.
