This expansion strengthens Singapore’s hub status and creates smoother access to secondary Indonesian cities. Moreover, Changi Airport Group supports Indonesia’s effort to streamline international travel. In 2024, the country reduced its global gateways from 34 to 17, focusing on key regions.
Semarang offers rich culture and sits near the famous Borobudur temple. Meanwhile, Palembang attracts visitors with its heritage and cuisine. Belitung, on the other hand, brings calm beaches and pristine waters. These new routes will connect travelers directly to unique destinations often overlooked by mainstream travel.
Currently, Singapore connects to 13 Indonesian cities with over 480 weekly flights. However, these new additions will widen that network. Furthermore, they align with Changi Airport Group’s long-term vision to grow regional links and boost trade.
Additionally, business travelers will benefit from easier access to provincial markets. Semarang and Palembang each have over 1.7 million residents. That creates big opportunities for meetings, cargo, and deals. Belitung, though smaller, is gaining fame as a peaceful getaway spot.
Changi Airport Group also remains mindful of costs. Competing airports like Kuala Lumpur offer cheaper operations. Therefore, Changi aims to deliver value while staying competitive.
