Traveling on a budget just got easier with Google Flights’ latest feature: the ‘Cheapest’ tab. This new addition helps travelers quickly find the lowest-cost flights for their desired destinations. Whether you’re planning a family vacation or a solo adventure, Google aims to support those who prioritize saving money over convenience.
The ‘Cheapest’ tab provides a straightforward way to sort flights by price. While the default setting remains the ‘Best’ tab, showcasing a balance of cost and convenience, users can now access the cheapest fares with a simple click. This change targets travelers who are willing to sift through options to secure the best deal.
By scanning the internet for prices from multiple airlines and online travel agencies, Google Flights compiles the most economical options available. However, users should be aware of some trade-offs. These may include flying with various airlines, departing and arriving at different airports, or facing longer layovers, even overnight stays. Additionally, travelers might have to book flights through different websites, requiring self-transfers that necessitate checking in and re-checking baggage.
Despite these challenges, budget-conscious travelers can significantly benefit. For example, families or groups can find lower fares, especially on costly routes.
Google Flights’ innovative feature aggregates data from numerous sources, enabling users to compare prices effortlessly. The rollout begins in the US, with plans to expand globally shortly after.
Furthermore, Google Flights showcases travel trends to help users book tickets at the right time. For domestic flights, the lowest prices appear approximately 38 days before departure. In contrast, international travelers should aim to book around 101 days in advance. Interestingly, Tuesdays emerge as the cheapest day for ticket purchases, with Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays being the best days to fly out.
Additionally, flights with layovers can cost up to 25% less than direct routes. Google enhances user experience by utilizing cookies and browsing habits, helping to identify cheaper flights over time.
