United Airlines has made a significant move by launching direct flights from Newark to Marrakech. This initiative marks United as the first US carrier to provide non-stop service to the vibrant Moroccan city. Over the past five years, United Airlines has broadened its reach in Africa, steadily adding new routes to enhance its global network.
As part of its winter schedule, which began on October 24, United will operate its largest-ever flight schedule. Moreover, the airline plans to conduct an impressive average of 4,600 daily flights during peak times. The new service to Marrakech operates three times weekly from Newark Liberty International Airport, utilizing a Boeing 767-300ER. This aircraft features 46 United Polaris business class seats and 22 United Premium Plus seats, ensuring passenger comfort on the long journey.
Specifically, the schedule includes flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Flight UA828 departs Newark at 21:45, landing in Marrakech at 11:20 local time. Meanwhile, the return journey, UA627, leaves Marrakech at 13:20 and arrives back in New York at 16:25 on Sundays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. This new route establishes Marrakech as United’s fifth African destination, joining Accra, Lagos, Johannesburg, and Cape Town.
Additionally, United Airlines is on track to achieve its most extensive African network yet this winter. This expansion includes increased flights from Washington-Dulles to Accra, Ghana, and Lagos, Nigeria. Furthermore, United announced future flights to Dakar, Senegal, starting in summer 2025, as part of its significant international growth.
Notably, the new Marrakech service also benefits United Cargo, enhancing logistics and reducing transit times in North Africa. By tapping into Morocco’s strong export capabilities, United aims to improve cargo flows to the US, thereby strengthening its market presence.
While United Airlines leads the way in non-stop services to Marrakech, it faces competition from Royal Air Maroc. This national carrier operates flights from Casablanca to key US cities, including New York, Washington-Dulles, and Miami. Royal Air Maroc plans to expand its operations, capitalizing on Morocco’s open skies agreement with the US.
Overall, the launch of direct flights from Newark to Marrakech demonstrates United Airlines’ commitment to connecting North America with emerging markets in Africa. Thus, it provides travelers with new opportunities and experiences.
