South African Airways continues rebuilding with aggressive expansion across local and regional destinations. The airline now focuses on connecting South Africa with key cities to stimulate tourism, trade, and growth. Recently, the airline revealed plans to operate new flights between Johannesburg and George, a route expected to drive tourism along the scenic Garden Route. It also targets high-demand connections like Cape Town to Durban and Johannesburg to East London, boosting mobility for business and leisure travelers alike. South African Airways also plans regional routes, including Johannesburg to Gaborone and Cape Town to Mauritius. Meanwhile, the Cape Town-Mauritius connection, beginning in November 2025, will meet growing demand for tropical travel. South African Airways will further resume long-haul flights to cities like Mumbai and Guangzhou. These intercontinental routes align with South Africa’s trade ambitions and help reconnect with important BRICS markets.
