easyJet Opens the Sky: New Pathway for Young People Into Aviation Careers

easyJet has introduced its Flight Paths initiative to support young people in the UK. Moreover, the programme addresses high youth unemployment and gives NEET youth a chance to build careers in aviation. Therefore, the airline plans to recruit nearly 1,000 cabin crew members by 2026. As a result, easyJet strengthens its presence at London Gatwick and creates fresh opportunities for young adults.

Currently, Britain faces its highest youth unemployment in more than a decade. In fact, almost one million young people fall into the NEET category. However, easyJet connects this group with aviation careers and removes barriers caused by misconceptions. Many young people believe cabin crew roles require strict educational qualifications. Instead, easyJet shows that enthusiasm and skills matter more than academic records.

Through the Flight Paths initiative, participants gain free taster sessions at the airline’s Gatwick Training Centre. Consequently, these sessions let young people experience cabin crew life, meet staff, and build confidence. Moreover, they also gain insight into communication, problem-solving, and teamwork. By offering this practical exposure, easyJet makes the aviation industry feel reachable and exciting.

Meanwhile, the airline aims the sessions at 18–24-year-olds, including school leavers considering their next steps. In addition, the programme highlights how aviation can offer travel, growth, and long-term career development. Thus, through hands-on learning, easyJet positions the cabin crew role as a fulfilling choice rather than a short-term job.

Alongside this, easyJet runs its Enterprise Advisors Programme to engage with schools in Luton and Gatwick. Additionally, employees from engineering, IT, and operations guide students about employability and career planning. Therefore, this multi-layered approach shows the airline’s long-term commitment to developing the next generation of workers.

Ultimately, by focusing on both recruitment and education, easyJet addresses skill shortages while reducing NEET levels across the UK. Furthermore, the airline also challenges stereotypes around gender and cabin crew roles. Consequently, with these initiatives, easyJet inspires young people to join aviation and secure stable futures.
