Austrian Airlines is transforming air travel by making Green Fares available on long-haul routes worldwide. Starting December 4, passengers can choose this eco-friendly option on more than 850,000 flights annually. Moreover, Green Fares include automatic CO2 offsetting, ensuring sustainable travel in every class.
Previously, Green Fares were limited to short and medium-haul flights. Now, Austrian Airlines, part of the Lufthansa Group, is expanding the offering across its global network. This move emphasizes their commitment to reducing aviation’s environmental impact. Green Fares offset emissions using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and climate protection investments, helping to balance the industry’s carbon footprint effectively.
Since launching earlier this year, over two million travelers have chosen Green Fares. As a result, nearly 190,000 tons of CO2 emissions have been offset. This figure shows the growing demand for eco-conscious travel options. Now available on long-haul flights, these fares reflect Austrian Airlines’ focus on offering innovative, greener solutions.
SAF is key to Austrian Airlines’ sustainability efforts. It cuts carbon emissions by around 80% compared to traditional fuels. Importantly, SAF blends easily with standard jet fuel, making it usable without altering aircraft systems. Additionally, the airline supports certified climate initiatives to achieve long-term environmental goals. These projects aim to reduce emissions while fostering sustainable innovations worldwide.
Green Fares provide more than environmental benefits. Travelers enjoy flexible rebooking and earn extra loyalty miles.
