Emirates celebrates 15 years of connecting Senegal to the global market through Dakar. Since 2010, the airline has transformed trade, tourism, and cultural exchange. Moreover, it continues to expand opportunities and strengthen West Africa’s ties with the world.
The journey began with an Airbus A340 that linked Dakar to Dubai and beyond. At that time, the new service opened faster routes to Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Consequently, businesses, pilgrims, and tourists embraced the connection as it unlocked global access.
By 2016, Emirates upgraded Dakar flights to the Boeing 777-300ER to meet demand. As a result, both passenger and cargo capacity grew. Since then, more than 6,000 flights have carried nearly 900,000 travelers. Furthermore, dedicated freighters strengthened trade and reinforced Senegal’s role in supply chains.
The airline also supported exports by moving seafood, fruits, and vegetables to international markets. For instance, grouper, lobster, melons, and mangoes reached Europe and Asia with efficiency. In addition, imports of electronics, textiles, and pharmaceuticals boosted Senegal’s economic growth. Emirates SkyCargo enabled this reliable exchange.
Tourism advanced as well. Therefore, visitors from Asia, the Middle East, and Europe discovered Senegal’s vibrant culture with greater ease. Meanwhile, Senegalese travelers used Dubai as a hub to reach more than 140 destinations. Thus, Emirates created stronger two-way connectivity.
Fifteen years of service mark only the beginning of Emirates’ expansion in West Africa. Looking ahead, the airline plans to widen trade links, drive tourism, and deepen cultural exchange. Consequently, with Senegal investing in infrastructure, Emirates will strengthen its role in shaping aviation growth.
Emirates has become more than an airline for Senegal. In fact, it stands as a connector of people, goods, and cultures. With proven reliability and a vast network, Emirates will continue building this partnership for decades to come.
