Emirates and South African Airways Strengthen Ties with New Partnership

Emirates and South African Airways (SAA) have taken their partnership to new heights, bringing enhanced connectivity between South Africa and Dubai. This expanded cooperation, announced at the 2025 Dubai Airshow, promises to streamline travel across Africa and the globe. Consequently, passengers will benefit from smoother journeys, more flight options, and better connections through Dubai’s international hub.

The latest agreement introduces a seamless codeshare system, allowing travelers to book flights on a single ticket for smoother transitions. Additionally, the partnership includes through-checked baggage, making connections hassle-free. For Emirates passengers, this network expansion means easier access to major cities in South Africa, such as Cape Town, Durban, and Gqeberha, as well as thirteen regional destinations across Southern Africa. In return, SAA customers gain direct access to Dubai’s extensive global network, opening doors to key cities across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

Moreover, as part of the expansion, Emirates will increase its weekly flights between South Africa and Dubai to fifty-six starting in July 2026. This boost in capacity responds directly to the growing demand for travel between the regions. Furthermore, the introduction of a third daily flight from Dubai to Cape Town will enhance connectivity, providing more flexibility for business and leisure travelers alike.

The Western Cape’s rising tourism profile makes the addition of more direct flights especially important, strengthening Cape Town’s position as a key African tourism hub. At the same time, the increased flight options will also support the region’s business sector by providing easier access to global markets.

Emirates is celebrating thirty years of operations in South Africa, underscoring its continued commitment to the region. As the partnership with SAA grows, it supports both airlines’ long-term strategies for enhancing service and expanding regional connectivity. Additionally, the two carriers are exploring future collaborations in frequent-flyer programs and cargo services, aiming to build stronger ties in the years ahead.
