Emirates has announced a significant expansion on its Dubai–Colombo route, signaling growing demand for flights to Sri Lanka. Moreover, the airline will increase its frequency with a new service starting January 2, 2025. This move aligns perfectly with Sri Lanka’s plans to attract more visitors by 2025. Clearly, Emirates’ decision highlights its role in supporting the island nation’s tourism and trade sectors.
Additionally, the new service will operate six times weekly, excluding Wednesdays, until March 31, 2025. From April 1, the route will become a daily service, offering consistent connectivity for passengers. Currently, Emirates runs three daily flights to Colombo, with two nonstop and one operating via the Maldives. Therefore, this enhancement will increase seating capacity by 30%, effectively meeting the growing passenger demand on this route.
Notably, the new flight will initially depart Dubai at 10:05 and arrive in Colombo by 16:00. Furthermore, the return flight will leave Colombo at 22:05, landing in Dubai the next day at 01:05. This additional service will use the Boeing 777-300ER, which is configured in a three-class layout with 360 seats. Thus, the aircraft offers eight first-class suites, 42 business-class seats, and 310 in economy, ensuring a premium travel experience for passengers.
Since 1986, Emirates has consistently supported Sri Lanka’s tourism growth by connecting it with global travelers. Over the years, the airline has transported more than 12 million passengers to and from Colombo. Consequently, its enhanced capacity reflects its commitment to helping Sri Lanka achieve its ambitious target of three million tourists by 2025.
Finally, Sri Lanka is actively promoting eco-tourism and showcasing its natural and cultural wealth to attract global travelers. Emirates’ increased flights will play a pivotal role in connecting Sri Lanka with the world. As a result, the nation will enjoy a significant boost in tourism and economic opportunities.
