Emirates is ending its Melbourne–Singapore route in March 2025. This decision ends the long-standing service connecting Australia to Singapore. Although popular with some travelers, the route didn’t attract enough demand, prompting the airline to cancel it.
The final flight will take place on Sunday, March 30, 2025. This marks the end of Emirates’ daily Boeing 777 service on the route. The airline plans to reallocate resources to more profitable routes instead.
This route was part of a broader Emirates service connecting Melbourne and Dubai through Singapore. The airline had previously used its flagship A380 aircraft for the Melbourne-Singapore leg. These flights offered luxury amenities, including private first-class showers and an inflight cocktail bar for business class. The route was especially popular among Qantas frequent flyers, who enjoyed using their points for top-tier experiences.
The flight schedule had mixed reviews. The 3 a.m. Melbourne departure was not ideal for many travelers. However, the 10 a.m. departure from Singapore provided a comfortable option for those traveling to Melbourne. Despite this, the route failed to generate sufficient demand for Emirates to justify continuing the service.
After halting the Melbourne-Singapore flights, Emirates will focus on a third daily non-stop service between Melbourne and Dubai. This new service will use Boeing 777 aircraft, which offer the latest business class features.
The competition on the Melbourne-Singapore route remains strong. Several airlines continue to offer daily flights between the two cities. Despite Emirates’ decision, the market remains well-served with various options for travelers.
