Ethiopian Airlines Marks 50 Years Transforming African Travel

Ethiopian Airlines has proudly completed 50 years of continuous service to Kigali. As a result, the airline has become a key driver of African air connectivity. Since 1975, Ethiopian Airlines has linked Rwanda to the continent and the world. Over the decades, it expanded those links into a vast global network. Through Addis Ababa, Kigali now connects to more than 145 cities worldwide.

Initially, Ethiopian Airlines opened the Kigali route when African aviation was still taking shape. Since then, the airline has played a central role in shaping the region’s travel future. Today, it operates 21 weekly passenger flights and three cargo services to Kigali. Consequently, this schedule supports Rwanda’s economy and boosts regional mobility.

Moreover, the airline has helped Rwanda attract tourism, trade, and investment. With each flight, Ethiopian Airlines advances Africa’s integration goals. In particular, it supports the African Continental Free Trade Area through seamless connections between nations.

At the same time, the airline’s cargo division drives economic development. Its freighter flights carry goods like coffee and produce directly to global buyers. Because of this, Rwandan exporters gain faster market access and higher reliability. Furthermore, Ethiopian Airlines uses advanced infrastructure at Bole Airport to ensure efficient cargo movement.

In addition, the airline supports local development through strategic partnerships. It works with RwandAir to improve services, share training, and expand coverage. Together, they boost the competitiveness of African aviation.

Looking forward, Ethiopian Airlines will keep growing across Africa. The airline plans to upgrade technology and improve passenger experiences. Therefore, Kigali’s connection to cities like New York, London, and Beijing will become even more seamless. Ultimately, Ethiopian Airlines remains committed to connecting Africa to the world with excellence.
