Etihad Airways has shown remarkable growth in the first quarter of 2025, boosting profits and delighting passengers across its expanding network. The airline achieved a profit after tax of AED 685 million, marking a 30 percent rise compared to last year. This strong financial outcome reflects a combination of rising passenger demand, smart operational strategies, and a deliberate increase in fleet size.
The airline increased its total revenue by 15 percent year-over-year, driven by robust sales in both passenger travel and cargo services. Passenger revenue alone reached AED 5.5 billion as more travelers chose Etihad Airways for their journeys. Despite a minor drop in cargo volumes, the airline raised cargo revenue by 8 percent by optimizing pricing and yield strategies.
Etihad Airways transported 5 million passengers during the quarter, up 16 percent from the previous year. The passenger load factor climbed to 87 percent, showing improved efficiency in filling seats. The fleet expanded from 89 to 98 aircraft, including the return of the sixth Airbus A380, which offers exclusive premium cabins. New additions like the Airbus A350-1000 and an upcoming Boeing 787 Dreamliner come equipped with advanced entertainment and high-speed Wi-Fi services.
Expanding its global reach, Etihad Airways now serves 80 destinations and plans to add 16 more routes in 2025. The airline enhanced its customer experience, raising satisfaction scores by 20 percent. Improvements touched every stage of travel, from check-in to onboard dining, lounges, and digital services. Etihad also debuted a First Class cabin on its single-aisle A321LR aircraft, blending luxury and comfort on medium-haul flights.
Operational efficiency increased profits further, with EBITDA growing by 32 percent to AED 1.4 billion. The airline lowered its net debt ratio significantly and improved cash flow by 11 percent. Flight operations and available seat kilometers both rose by 14 percent, matching market demand growth.
Etihad Airways’ Q1 success highlights its strategic focus on sustainable growth, operational excellence, and superior customer care. These efforts set a solid foundation for continued expansion and profitability throughout 2025 and beyond.
