Etihad Enhances Passenger Comfort with IATA Turbulence Aware Technology

Etihad Airways has taken a major step to improve passenger comfort by joining IATA’s Turbulence Aware programme. This system tracks and responds to turbulence, making flights smoother and safer. By joining, Etihad Airways helps build a global network that shares real-time turbulence data during flights.

Nearly 100 of Etihad’s Airbus and Boeing planes will send live turbulence data. Pilots can use this information to make better decisions mid-flight, improving safety and comfort. Additionally, the system boosts operational efficiency, allowing airlines to manage resources better during turbulence.

Etihad’s global network strengthens the data available for the programme. The airline operates on five continents, offering insights from many parts of the world. This adds to the growing network of turbulence data, improving the safety and efficiency of the aviation industry.

The aviation industry continues to adopt data-driven solutions. Etihad Airways’ decision shows how much the sector relies on technology to enhance travel. With accurate, real-time data, pilots navigate turbulence easily, ensuring smoother, more comfortable flights.

More airlines are joining the programme, which improves turbulence data. Over 25 airlines contribute, with more than 2,600 planes sharing data. This effort generated over 51 million turbulence reports in 2024, helping make air travel safer for all.
