Ex-NFL Tackle Arrested for Alleged In-Flight Urination: What Went Down?

Gosder Cherilus, a former NFL offensive lineman, was taken into custody on Sunday after reportedly urinating on another passenger during an international flight, as indicated by various news sources.

At his arraignment on Monday in East Boston District Court, the 40-year-old pleaded not guilty to charges including interfering with aircraft operations, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. He was subsequently released after posting a $2,500 bond.

Cherilus chose not to speak with reporters but issued an apology via a statement shared on X later that day.

He explained, “The flight experienced an unexpected delay of about four hours and did not depart until shortly after 12:30 a.m. To cope with this unforeseen overnight journey, I took a sleeping medication that I don’t usually use, which led to actions inconsistent with my character. I sincerely apologize to both the passengers and the flight crew.”

Reports indicate that authorities were summoned to Logan Airport at 2 a.m. on Sunday when a Delta flight en route to Dublin had to return to Boston due to an “unruly” passenger who urinated on someone else.

A police report reviewed by WBZ News stated that Cherilus appeared intoxicated upon his arrival at the airport. He reportedly engaged in an argument regarding seating arrangements before takeoff. Approximately one hour into the flight, he allegedly approached an elderly woman, exposed himself, urinated on her, and became agitated when crew members tried to intervene.

Cherilus was ultimately removed from the aircraft by police officers, arrested, and charged accordingly.

In 2008, Cherilus was selected as a first-round draft pick by the Detroit Lions after playing college football at Boston College. Over his career spanning five seasons with Detroit and two each with the Indianapolis Colts and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he started in 116 games.
