Hong Kong Airlines is expanding its reach globally with a new route to Vancouver. The airline will operate direct flights from Hong Kong International Airport to Vancouver International Airport. This move positions Hong Kong Airlines as a strong competitor to Cathay Pacific in the Hong Kong market.
Flights will begin on January 18. Initially, the airline will offer two weekly services on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The route signals the airline’s shift from a regional operator to a global player, capitalizing on the aviation recovery.
Though bookings are not open yet, this route adds to Hong Kong Airlines’ growing network of over 30 destinations worldwide. The airline has strategically optimized its routes and fleet to support this expansion.
The Hong Kong to Vancouver route already has strong competition, with Cathay Pacific and Air Canada offering multiple daily flights. Hong Kong Airlines plans to add more options for travelers, increasing competition in this market.
In addition to its Vancouver route, the airline is increasing staffing levels. Over 600 new employees have joined this year, including pilots, cabin crew, and other essential roles. This will support Hong Kong Airlines as it grows its network, including expanding flights to Seoul, Tokyo, and Sapporo.
Hong Kong Airlines is also exploring potential routes to the United States. Cities like Los Angeles, Seattle, and Toronto are part of the airline’s plans. To support this growth, Hong Kong Airlines is looking to expand its fleet with Boeing 787s.
