Japan Airlines plans to strengthen its presence in Vietnam by expanding services and boosting tourism. The airline increases connections to promote economic and cultural ties between the two nations. This year marks 30 years since its first Ho Chi Minh City-Japan flight in 1994. Over time, Japan Airlines has supported trade, cultural exchange, and tourism between Vietnam and Japan.
In 2019, the airline served a record number of passengers by expanding its network. It offered flights to 199 destinations across 66 countries and territories while improving services. By 2023, it recovered from the pandemic, reaching 135% of its pre-pandemic passenger numbers. These results highlight its growth and resilience in challenging times.
Japan Airlines runs two daily flights from Ho Chi Minh City and one from Hanoi to Japan. This schedule provides reliable travel options for passengers. It has also been ranked as the Asia-Pacific’s second most punctual carrier. Between January and August, 461,000 Japanese travelers visited Vietnam, representing 79% of last year’s total. The weak yen, however, reduced Japanese tourists’ overseas travel, affecting Vietnam’s visitor numbers slightly.
Despite currency hurdles, Japan remains a key tourism market for Vietnam. Japan Airlines continues to invest in Vietnam, focusing on growing travel demand and enhancing bilateral relations. The airline’s expanded services aim to support Vietnam’s economic growth and boost tourism exchanges. This commitment reinforces the strong partnership between the two nations.
