Etihad faced major flight changes this week as strong storms hit Saudi Arabia and nearby countries. On May 5, an Etihad plane flying from Abu Dhabi to Riyadh turned toward Bahrain because of bad weather. Since the skies over Riyadh were unsafe, the airline took quick action to protect passengers. Heavy rain, wind, and hail made it unsafe to land there.
As a result, airports across the region saw flight delays and changes. While Saudi Arabia dealt with strong rain and low visibility, Kuwait also faced storm problems. Because of this, some planes had to land elsewhere. Ground teams paused their work until the skies cleared up.
Weather experts had warned of heavy rain and changing skies. Cities like Riyadh and Jeddah had trouble keeping flights on time. Even though some planes landed safely, others had to take longer routes. Etihad, however, acted fast to keep things under control.
In Kuwait, storms caused big problems on Sunday night. As clouds rolled in, air traffic teams sent flights to Dammam. Still, some planes landed safely thanks to teamwork between pilots and ground staff. This showed how fast thinking helped avoid danger.
Etihad helped all passengers after they landed in Bahrain. They gave hotel rooms or new flight options as needed. Since safety always comes first, Etihad said they will keep working with weather teams to stay ready for storms.
In the future, Gulf airlines must plan better for rough weather. Storms now appear with little warning, so quick choices matter more than ever. Etihad continues to lead by using better tools, faster messages, and live weather updates.
