Fly American: The Shortest Route To Paradise Begins In Miami

American Airlines will soon link Miami to South Bimini through its shortest international flight. The new service begins on February 14, 2026, and will operate three times each week. Therefore, travelers from the United States will enjoy faster access to the Bahamas compared to ferries or connections.

At just 64 miles, the Miami–South Bimini flight becomes the shortest in the American Airlines network. In fact, it overtakes the Chicago–Milwaukee route, which measures 67 miles. Moreover, American Eagle and Envoy Air will operate this route with Embraer E175 jets. These aircraft offer 12 business seats and 64 economy seats, ensuring flexible travel choices.

Flights will depart Miami at 10:05 a.m. and arrive in South Bimini by 11:05 a.m. Similarly, the return leg leaves at 11:50 a.m. and lands in Miami at 12:50 p.m. As a result, travelers can easily plan short weekend escapes without complicated transfers.

This new service expands American Airlines’ presence in the Bahamas to seven destinations. Furthermore, it helps the carrier redirect more Miami traffic toward leisure-focused routes. South Bimini already attracts visitors with its pristine beaches, luxury resorts, and active water sports. However, travelers previously relied on ferries or connections through Nassau or Freeport, which complicated journeys.

Now, the nonstop option creates greater convenience for leisure seekers. Consequently, local businesses expect rising tourism revenue as visitors choose South Bimini for quick getaways. Resorts such as Resorts World Bimini will likely see increased demand and higher occupancy. At the same time, the flight strengthens Miami International Airport’s role as a Caribbean hub.

The Embraer E175 jets also suit the route perfectly. They provide a smooth cabin experience and allow travelers to select business or economy class. Ultimately, with this addition, American Airlines enhances leisure access and boosts tourism in the Bahamas. Thus, the airline connects travelers more directly to island escapes and weekend adventures.
