Avianca strengthens its presence in Florida by launching new direct routes between South America and the state. Tampa gains its first direct flight to South America in almost fifty years with a new service to Bogota, Colombia. This connection enhances business and cultural exchanges.
Avianca adds new routes from Fort Lauderdale to Medellin, Colombia, and Managua, Nicaragua. Miami also gets direct flights to San José, Costa Rica, and Guatemala City, Guatemala. These routes improve travel efficiency and support economic growth in the cities involved.
Once operational, Avianca will offer 16 direct flights from South America to Florida. This expansion is part of the airline’s plan to increase its North American presence, offering more convenient travel options.
Avianca saw a 26.1% year-over-year capacity increase. The airline achieved an 81.4% load factor, up 1.2 percentage points from 2023. Passenger numbers rose by 37.5%, reaching 9.3 million travelers. Avianca also posted a $272 million EBITDAR for the first quarter of 2024, with a 21.5% margin, reflecting solid profitability growth.
This expansion not only increases flight options but also highlights Avianca’s commitment to improving global connectivity and strengthening its market share in North America.
