Fly Hanoi to Moscow Again – Vietnam Airlines Brings Back the Route You Love

Vietnam Airlines is set to restart direct flights between Hanoi and Moscow on May 8, 2025, marking a major step in reviving tourism. After a three-year pause, the airline plans to operate flights twice a week, with an increase to three flights per week by July 2026. This move signals a strong commitment to restoring travel demand between Vietnam and Russia.

Before the pandemic, Russian tourists ranked among Vietnam’s largest visitor groups. Popular destinations like Nha Trang and Da Nang heavily relied on these travelers. However, the absence of direct flights forced many Russians to choose alternative destinations such as Thailand and Turkey. Vietnam Airlines aims to change this trend by making travel more convenient and accessible.

The airline’s decision to restart this long-haul route also strengthens trade and investment ties. Direct connectivity fosters business growth, encouraging more trade agreements and tourism collaborations. A seamless link between Hanoi and Moscow could attract more investors, boosting Vietnam’s economic prospects.

Vietnam Airlines has ambitious plans beyond Russia. The airline intends to launch or resume 15 other international routes in 2025, including flights to Italy, India, Japan, and the UAE. This expansion helps Vietnam Airlines compete with regional carriers that have gained market share in recent years.

Despite the excitement, challenges remain. Visa policies, geopolitical tensions, and fluctuating economic conditions could impact demand. Airspace restrictions might also create operational hurdles. The airline must closely monitor global trends to ensure success.

For travelers, the revival of this route brings convenience and cost savings. Russian tourists can now fly directly to Vietnam without layovers, making the journey more attractive. Business professionals will also benefit from improved access, facilitating meetings and investments. If executed well, this route could reestablish Vietnam as a top destination for Russian visitors while strengthening global travel connections.
