Fly Southwest: Now Connecting Knoxville to America’s Favorite Destinations

Southwest Airlines is accelerating its network growth, and Knoxville is now part of its expanding U.S. map. The carrier will begin flights from McGhee Tyson Airport in March 2026, thereby creating faster links to major hubs and popular vacation spots. Consequently, this move strengthens Knoxville’s role as a gateway to East Tennessee and improves the airline’s competitive reach.

In the first phase, nonstop service will run from Knoxville to Baltimore, Dallas, and Orlando, while Nashville will see twice-daily flights. As a result, travelers can enjoy direct access to the Great Smoky Mountains, Dollywood, and the University of Tennessee. Moreover, Knoxville becomes the airline’s third Tennessee destination, alongside Nashville and Memphis, adding a stronger network presence in the state.

At the same time, Southwest Airlines is boosting its West Coast operations. San Diego will gain direct links to Seattle, Portland, Eugene, Maui, and Puerto Vallarta, thus expanding leisure options. Additionally, two seasonal Saturday routes will connect San Diego with Bozeman and Spokane, which aligns with the opening of San Diego’s new Terminal 1 in September 2026.

Furthermore, the airline is strengthening hub-to-hub links by adding flights between Nashville and Little Rock, Chicago and Milwaukee, and Phoenix and Tucson. Consequently, passengers traveling between smaller cities and major hubs will enjoy more flexible options and smoother connections.

This growth follows recent service additions to St. Thomas, with Knoxville marking the second new city in months. Therefore, Southwest’s strategy blends leisure destinations, strategic hubs, and competitive responses. By doing so, it offers travelers more choice while securing a stronger U.S. footprint.

Ultimately, Knoxville’s inclusion will boost regional tourism and improve outbound travel convenience. Because the city sits in the Appalachian region, it serves as a prime entry point for nature lovers and business travelers. Therefore, Southwest Airlines aims to turn these new connections into lasting gains for both the airline and its passengers.
