Delta Air Lines has decided to cancel its Boston to Honolulu route, which was initially set to resume in November. The airline has removed direct flights between these cities from its booking system, signaling the end of this short-lived seasonal route.
This decision affects travelers who were expecting nonstop service from Boston Logan International Airport to Honolulu Daniel K. Inouye International Airport. Previously, Delta Air Lines had planned to operate four weekly flights from November, increasing to daily service in December. However, the airline now offers connecting flights instead, requiring layovers in cities such as Seattle or Salt Lake City.
The Boston-Honolulu route was first announced in early 2024 as part of the airline’s expansion strategy. The carrier aimed to strengthen its position in key leisure markets, including Honolulu and Miami. The route launched in November 2024 but is now being discontinued before its second season.
Following this exit, Hawaiian Airlines remains the only carrier offering nonstop flights between Boston and Honolulu. The airline operates up to five weekly flights on this route, adjusting its schedule based on seasonal demand. Delta Air Lines had planned to use an Airbus A330-300 for the service, while Hawaiian Airlines continues to deploy its Airbus A330-200.
This route holds significance as the longest domestic flight within the United States, covering 8,200 kilometers. Other lengthy domestic routes include flights between Honolulu and New York’s JFK Airport, as well as Newark Liberty International Airport. Meanwhile, the longest domestic route that does not involve Hawaii or Alaska is between Miami and Seattle.
Delta Air Lines’ decision reflects ongoing adjustments in airline networks as carriers optimize their routes based on demand and profitability. Travelers planning trips from Boston to Honolulu must now consider alternative connections to reach their destination.
