From Aspiring Pilot to Captain—Etihad’s Fully Funded Training Opens the Door

Etihad Airways is opening new career doors with a fully sponsored Employee Cadet Pilot Programme. This initiative allows ten employees the opportunity to become pilots, reinforcing the airline’s commitment to career growth.

Over the past year, Etihad Airways has seen incredible success with its UAE National Cadet Programme, which received more than 2,000 applications. Building on this momentum, the airline is now focusing on internal talent. Employees from different departments, representing eight nationalities, will receive full financial support for their two-year training. As a result, they can now transition into piloting careers without financial burden.

Right now, these employees work in roles like Cabin Crew and Flight Dispatch. However, through this program, they can shift into the pilot’s seat. By prioritizing internal mobility, Etihad Airways continues to invest in its workforce while helping employees achieve their professional goals. Moreover, this initiative strengthens the company’s long-term vision by ensuring a steady supply of skilled pilots.

Notably, this program also advances gender diversity. Seven out of the ten selected candidates are women, demonstrating the airline’s commitment to inclusion. Since nearly 600 employees applied, the selection process was highly competitive. To ensure fairness, candidates completed assessments in English, mathematics, and physics. Furthermore, they underwent aptitude tests and medical evaluations to confirm their readiness for the demanding role.

For the first time, Etihad Airways is offering a pilot training program exclusively for its employees. This initiative strengthens its internal workforce while creating opportunities for career advancement. The training, which takes place in both the UAE and Spain, combines classroom learning with advanced flight simulation. Additionally, trainees gain hands-on experience with the latest aircraft, ensuring they are well-prepared for real-world aviation challenges.

Ultimately, this initiative secures Etihad Airways’ future as a top global airline. By supporting internal talent, the company not only enhances workforce diversity but also ensures a strong pipeline of highly trained pilots. Thanks to this program, employees who once worked on the ground now have the chance to take flight, proving that ambition and dedication can lead to new heights.
