Hamad International Airport in Qatar has completed a major expansion, increasing its annual capacity to 65 million passengers. The airport unveiled Concourses D and E, strengthening its position as a global aviation hub. This expansion enhances connectivity, improves services, and aligns with Qatar’s long-term development plans.
Doha’s airport saw a record-breaking 52.7 million passengers in the past year. The new concourses offer modern facilities, advanced technology, and increased terminal space. These upgrades provide a seamless travel experience, reducing wait times and improving passenger comfort.
The expansion adds 14% more terminal space, bringing the total area to 845,000 square meters. It also increases the number of gates by 40%, now totaling 62. This improvement minimizes bus transfers and streamlines airport operations. The integration of smart boarding systems and document verification enhances efficiency and speeds up travel procedures.
Retail and dining options have expanded significantly. Qatar Duty-Free introduced nine new outlets, adding 2,700 square meters of shopping space. The upgrades prioritize accessibility while promoting sustainability. Passengers can now enjoy a wider selection of premium stores and international restaurants.
The airport recorded 279,000 aircraft movements and handled 2.6 million tonnes of cargo last year. Passenger traffic rose by 15%, while local travelers increased by 16%. Hamad International Airport connects to 197 global destinations and serves 55 airlines, including new carriers from China, Japan, and Indonesia.
The airport continues to attract travelers from both Eastern and Western markets. China saw an 87% surge in passengers, while European traffic posted double-digit growth. Recognized as the world’s best airport in 2024, Hamad International Airport remains a top choice for global travelers.
