Hawaiian Airlines will change its flight offerings by ending the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner service to Phoenix. This change starts in Spring 2025 and marks a significant shift for the airline’s mainland route. For the past three months, Hawaiian Airlines has exclusively used the Dreamliners between Honolulu and Phoenix.
Currently, the airline operates two Boeing 787-9s, which it delivered earlier this year. Moreover, Hawaiian Airlines will continue operating the Dreamliner on this route until April 15, 2025. After that date, the airline will reinstate the Airbus A330-200 for the journey, thus ending a ten-month hiatus. Furthermore, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport has become one of the newest destinations for Hawaiian’s 787-9 operations since its debut.
In February, Hawaiian Airlines welcomed its first Dreamliner and quickly began services to San Francisco International Airport. After the second Dreamliner arrived in May, the airline expanded routes to include Los Angeles International Airport and Phoenix. Notably, on June 12, 2023, the 787-9 replaced the A330-200 on the Phoenix route and has served as the sole aircraft since then.
This month, Hawaiian Airlines provides 62 flights, totaling about 18,600 seats. This number exceeds the 17,236 seats offered last year with the A330-200. Additionally, the 787-9s feature luxurious amenities. They include 34 Leihōkū suites arranged in a 1-2-1 layout. These suites offer fully lie-flat seats, large entertainment screens, and direct aisle access.
As Hawaiian Airlines prepares to transition away from the 787-9 in Phoenix, the aircraft will soon fly between Kahului Airport and Los Angeles International Airport in February. With ten more Dreamliners on order, Hawaiian Airlines eagerly looks forward to enhancing its fleet and routes. Ultimately, Hawaiian Airlines remains committed to providing excellent service and expanding operations to meet passenger needs.
