Iberia Maintenance recently won the “Best Sustainability Initiative 2025” award at Aerospace Tech Week in Munich. This award celebrates Iberia’s strong commitment to reducing its environmental impact and promoting sustainability in aviation.
The company’s strategy focuses on sustainable aviation. One key element is the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in engine test benches. In 2024, this initiative cut 130 tonnes of CO2 emissions, making a real impact on the aerospace industry’s push to lower carbon emissions.
Iberia has also focused on improving energy efficiency. It aims to reduce energy consumption by 20% by 2025 compared to 2022. To support this goal, Iberia now produces 10% of its energy through solar panels and runs entirely on renewable energy. These steps highlight Iberia’s dedication to decreasing its environmental footprint.
The company is also boosting its in-house repair capabilities. Iberia plans to handle 40% of repairs internally, cutting back on outsourcing. For repairs that are outsourced, Iberia works with a logistics provider focused on reducing emissions by 20%, which supports the company’s broader sustainability goals.
This recognition at Aerospace Tech Week further establishes Iberia as a leader in the aerospace sector’s sustainability efforts. It underscores the company’s ongoing drive to implement green practices and contribute to a more sustainable aviation industry.
