Icelandair Hits Historic 8% Passenger Growth in 2025

Icelandair marked a major achievement in 2025. Its passenger traffic grew by 8%, surpassing 5.1 million travelers. This growth shows a rise in demand for both international and domestic travel. Icelandair has become a key player in global travel, especially for passengers connecting through Iceland.

December was a standout month. The airline transported 344,000 passengers, a 10% increase from December 2024. Almost half of these travelers, 48%, passed through Iceland. This confirms the country’s vital role as a transit hub. Travel to Iceland itself made up 27%, while 25% were domestic flights.

Passenger numbers grew alongside operational performance. Icelandair recorded its highest load factor of 84.1% in December. This reflected high seat occupancy during peak travel. The full year showed consistent demand across all travel segments. Icelandair’s position in the tourism market remained strong.

On-time performance improved dramatically. December saw an 80.1% on-time rate, up from 59.7% the year before. For 2025, the airline achieved 83.9% punctuality. This increase built traveler confidence and ensured smoother connections through Iceland.

Icelandair also focused on sustainability. In December, carbon emissions per kilometer dropped by 6%. This improvement came from a more efficient fleet and higher load factors. The airline also expanded leasing and freight services, contributing to its overall growth in 2025.
