Icelandair achieved a remarkable milestone in March 2025, carrying 312,000 passengers. This figure represents a 5% rise compared to the same month last year. The airline expanded its capacity by the same percentage, reflecting its steady upward trajectory. Most passengers traveled to Iceland, while a significant portion either departed or connected through the country. Domestic travel within Iceland also showed strong numbers, further boosting overall performance.

The airline operated efficiently, maintaining an 83.5% load factor. Its on-time performance reached 84%, ensuring a smooth experience for travelers despite the busy season. This consistency highlights Icelandair’s ability to manage high passenger volumes while keeping service quality intact.

Financially, the airline performed as expected, despite a slight decline in yield. The drop stemmed from last year’s early Easter, which shifted revenue patterns. Charter flight demand surged, leading to a 50% increase in sold block hours. Freight services also grew, with freight ton kilometers rising by 3% year over year. These factors contributed to Icelandair’s overall financial strength.

Sustainability remained a key focus for the airline. By incorporating fuel-efficient aircraft such as the Boeing 737 MAX and A321 LR, it reduced CO2 emissions per operational ton kilometer by 3%. This shift supports the airline’s long-term commitment to environmental responsibility. Additionally, Icelandair expanded its partnership with JetBlue, allowing more travelers to redeem miles for flights. The airline’s premium travel offerings and loyalty programs also attracted more customers.

Looking ahead, Icelandair sees strong summer demand. Bookings from North America, Europe, and Iceland have surpassed last year’s numbers. However, economic uncertainty has slightly impacted long-term bookings. Still, the airline remains optimistic about a successful summer, driven by its strong performance and expanding market presence.
