airBaltic has launched a bold initiative to boost tourism and celebrate the Baltic identity through aviation. The airline now names each aircraft in its Airbus A220-300 fleet after cities in Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania. As a result, it turns every flight into a tribute to cultural unity and history.

Importantly, this project honors the legacy of the 1989 Baltic Way. Back then, millions joined hands for independence. Today, airBaltic channels that spirit into its fleet. Instead of choosing arbitrary names, the airline asked the public to vote. In response, over one million people selected 48 cities that represent national pride and unity.

Naturally, Riga, Tallinn, and Vilnius became the first names. Each city symbolizes distinct cultural strength, resilience, and innovation. Riga showcases Art Nouveau architecture. Meanwhile, Tallinn blends medieval heritage with tech-driven progress. Vilnius offers baroque charm and green spaces. Therefore, the first three planes already carry more than passengers—they carry legacy.

Moreover, this initiative helps promote lesser-known destinations. Travelers now fly into a deeper story. Each name sparks curiosity and encourages visits beyond the typical tourist routes. Consequently, people connect more meaningfully with the Baltic region.

Currently, airBaltic operates over 130 routes to Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa. Because of that reach, the campaign spreads Baltic culture across continents. As more aircraft receive city names, each becomes a moving billboard for regional pride.
