Indian Airlines achieved a major milestone in March 2025 as passenger numbers soared sharply. As a result, the airlines carried 1.45 crore passengers, marking an 8.79% rise from March 2024. Back then, only 1.33 crore travelers flew with Indian carriers, highlighting the strong recovery in the aviation sector.
Meanwhile, IndiGo maintained its dominance across Indian Airlines by flying 93.1 lakh passengers in March 2025. Therefore, it grabbed an impressive 64% share of the domestic market. In comparison, the Air India Group, which includes Air India and Air India Express, moved 38.8 lakh passengers. Consequently, they secured a solid 26.7% market share, indicating strong competition among major airlines.
Moreover, Akasa Air and SpiceJet continued to make notable gains last month. Akasa Air, with 7.2 lakh passengers, secured a growing 5% market share. Similarly, SpiceJet carried 4.8 lakh travelers, earning a 3.3% slice of the market. Thus, both airlines expanded steadily, signaling a wider range of choices for Indian flyers and fierce competition among Indian Airlines.
Furthermore, operational performance played a key role in shaping March 2025’s success story. IndiGo achieved the industry’s highest on-time performance, clocking an impressive 88.1% punctuality. At the same time, Akasa Air followed closely by delivering an 86.9% on-time rate. In comparison, the Air India Group posted 82% punctuality, whereas SpiceJet lagged with 72.1%. Therefore, operational reliability became a clear differentiator among carriers striving for customer loyalty.
Overall, Indian Airlines are rewriting the rules of domestic travel by setting new records and boosting efficiency. Hence, the aviation sector now stands poised for further expansion as more Indians embrace air travel like never before.
