IndiGo Rekindles Kolkata–Guangzhou Route, Opening New Doors for Business and Tourism

IndiGo has restored direct flights from Kolkata to Guangzhou after five years. The airline will begin daily services from October 26, 2025. This route strengthens India–China air connectivity while boosting tourism and trade across the region.

The decision comes after recent diplomatic efforts between India and China. Both countries aim to improve business links and expand travel opportunities. The resumption of this route highlights IndiGo’s role in enhancing regional aviation growth. It also marks a milestone for Kolkata as a rising hub in Eastern India.

The new connection creates faster access to Guangzhou, a global business center. The city hosts the Canton Fair and attracts entrepreneurs worldwide. Indian companies can now reduce logistics costs and reach Chinese markets with greater ease. At the same time, Chinese firms can explore India’s expanding consumer base and growing industries.

Tourism will also benefit from this service. Indian travelers can now explore China’s historic sites, modern attractions, and cultural offerings with less travel time. Likewise, Chinese visitors gain easier access to Kolkata’s cultural landmarks, arts, and heritage destinations. This exchange supports growth in hospitality and cultural sectors for both nations.

The direct link will also support student mobility. Many Indian students pursue higher studies in China. The new flight gives them a convenient travel option while encouraging academic collaboration. Furthermore, the route enhances Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) tourism. Businesses in both countries will find it easier to host and attend corporate events.

Kolkata Airport will also benefit from increased international traffic. The added connectivity strengthens its role as a regional gateway. With more routes under consideration, this launch signals deeper cooperation between India and China. IndiGo positions itself as a key driver of affordable and reliable travel within Asia.
