Japan Airlines has proposed changes to its fuel surcharge rates for international flights. The airline submitted a request to Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism to approve these changes. These adjustments will apply to international passenger tickets issued between February 1 and March 31, 2025. If approved, the new surcharge rates will reflect the cost of kerosene-type jet fuel.
The airline determines its surcharge rates every two months, based on the average price of Singapore kerosene-type jet fuel. For October and November 2024, the average price was USD 88.60 per barrel. Converting this amount at an exchange rate of JPY 151.57 per USD results in JPY 13,429. This price aligns with Zone H for the period of February to March 2025.
Japan Airlines, known for its focus on service quality and innovation, regularly adjusts its pricing. The airline serves numerous international destinations, ensuring passengers enjoy a top-tier travel experience. These surcharge adjustments reflect Japan Airlines’ proactive efforts to address fluctuating fuel prices and maintain competitive fares.
The new surcharge rates will increase across various international routes. For example, flights from Japan to Korea and Far East Russia will rise from 2,500 Yen to 3,000 Yen. Longer flights, such as those to North America, Europe, and Oceania, will increase from 25,000 Yen to 29,000 Yen. These changes help Japan Airlines manage rising fuel costs effectively.
These surcharge increases give Japan Airlines flexibility to continue offering high-quality service while covering fuel price fluctuations. The airline’s careful cost management ensures it can maintain competitive pricing for passengers despite market challenges.
