JetBlue Extends Haiti Flight Suspension—Ensuring Your Safety Comes First

JetBlue extended its suspension of flights to Haiti until April 2025 due to rising safety concerns. The airline, the only U.S. carrier offering direct flights between Haiti and South Florida and New York, faces instability in Haiti. This decision follows political unrest and violence, which have made traveling to Haiti increasingly unsafe.

JetBlue announced it would halt flights to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, until at least April 30, 2025. Civil unrest prompted the airline’s action. Additionally, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) imposed a ban on U.S. commercial flights to Port-au-Prince, effective until March 2025. Although Haiti’s Toussaint Louverture International Airport reopened, ongoing violence raises concerns. These safety issues led JetBlue to reevaluate its operations.

Gang violence has targeted the aviation industry, forcing airlines like American Airlines and Spirit Airlines to suspend their Haiti routes. In November 2024, gangs in Port-au-Prince attacked multiple flights, including JetBlue’s. These incidents triggered significant concerns for airline safety, prompting a reevaluation of routes to Haiti.

Haiti now faces limited aviation options. The suspension of flights to Port-au-Prince restricts most travelers. While Cap-Haïtien remains operational, severe flooding and poor connectivity hinder access. Travelers struggle to enter or leave Haiti, with limited options remaining. The suspension has isolated Haiti from the global air travel network, harming tourism and the economy.

Despite the challenges, Haitian officials are determined to restore stability. However, resuming flights depends on improving safety conditions. Until then, Haiti will rely on limited air access and alternative routes, keeping the country isolated.
